My professor briefly talked about schemas and their relation to politics/controversial issues.

Basically she said that people who have limited knowledge of an issue only remember details/facts that coincide with their schemas, while people who have a more complete understanding of an issue will remember more details/facts and take in info from different sides of an argument and fit both sides into their schema. 

I dont know; its somewhat confusing to wrap my head around, but I think I’m understanding it.  For example, people who are against planned parenthood- they have a schema of a “perfect” society where everyone believes in their god and women people don’t have sex until marriage. So with that schema in place, they only remember the services planned parenthood offers that relate to abortion and birth control.  They forget that planned parenthood also provides other very important services to women’s health, such as pap tests and breast examinations. 

hmm. I must think about this concept more.
